When you miss a practice session, or when it goes badly, it’s tempting to place the blame for the missed session on something outside your control. “I’m just too tired today.” Or “I’m just too busy. I’ll practice when I’m retired.”
But when you skip a practice session, or when practice goes badly, it’s almost always because of something you could have controlled. Next time you can plan better, you can put in more effort, you can try different tactics and strategies.
If you end up skipping today’s practice session because you were too tired to focus, for example, you can prevent that from happening again tomorrow by going to bed earlier tonight. Or if being disorganized is weighing you down, you can buy a book about organization and start taking control of your life’s many projects.
It may feel easier to blame circumstance for shortcomings, but when you blame something that’s outside your control, you give away all your power. I recommend that instead of behaving like a victim of fate, you instead accept responsibility for what went wrong. Focus on solving problems and planning better.
