22 Song Titles. Which Do You Like?

tozier1 - Copy (2)Since July 4th I’ve written 22 lyrics.

Many of these need to be polished and structured a bit better, so it’ll be at least a few more weeks until I post demos of these.

Meanwhile, I have a small favor to ask. Would you take half a minute to read through the list below and let me know which of these titles (if any) pique your curiosity? I’d like to see whether you and I find the same titles most interesting.

    1. Tell Me
    2. I’ve Always Been a Greedy One
    3. The Deep End of Summer
    4. I Don’t Care What the Weatherman Says

    9. A Letter I Almost Sent
    10. Starving with a Pocket Full of Money

    I love these titles:

I’ve Always Been a Greedy One
I Don’t Care What the Weatherman Says
Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair
    Rope Holds Her Together
    Fifteen Girls
    Pesky Little Dreams
I Love When You Forget Your Manners

The other ones are also good, but these spark my curiosity!

The most interesting titles from the list, in my opinion:
I’ve Always Been a Greedy One
    Rope Holds Her Together
    Pesky Little Dreams
I Love When You Forget Your Manners

Great titles – I’d be interested to hear the songs too!

I Don’t Care What the Weatherman Says strongly brings to mind the Lois Armstrong song (actually called Jeepers Creepers), so if it were my song, I might re-think that one.

    Hey Nicholas,

that would be titles nr. 2., 6., 13. and 19. – as for title nr. 9 I’m still in doubt wether it piques my curiosity or is too predictable.

Thanks for all your effort creating these newsletters!!

    Cheers,
    Ben

Asterisks before the ones I especially like…may prefer them shortened…I like titles that imply a question that the listener will be anxious to answer. Have also indicated by parens how titles could be shortened to make them punchier, more singable, more provocative.

    * Tell Me
*(I’ve Always Been a) Greedy One
    *Deep End of Summer
*(I)Don’t Care What the Weatherman Says
Black Is (the Color of My True Love’s Hair) (folk song rewrite)
    *Rope Holds Her Together
    *I’ll Always Have Time
    *Typecast
    (A Letter) I Almost Sent
Starving (with a Pocket Full of Money)
    *Empty in the Morning
    *Fifteen Girls
    Those Are the Hands
    *Yes, Jealous
    *Ship in a Sinking Bottle
(Scratched Your Name into a) Bell
    Missing
(If You’re) Desperate for a Hero
    Under (the) Pines
    Pesky Little Dreams
(I Love When You) Forget Your Manners
(You Know) Where to Find Me

    The Deep End of Summer
I love this because writing about the end of summer as the deep end is so cool. You can drown in the deep end…

    Ship in a Sinking Bottle
Very cool. The ship in a bottle could be the perfect relationship to fit a situation, and then the situation changes.

    Pesky Little Dreams
Dreams as a pain in the ass? Awesome. How nice it would be to not have to be dogged by dreams, although it would be sad, too. Lots to work with here!

    Hey,
Starving with a Pocket Full of Money and Fifteen Girls are good ones.

Tell me makes me think of the Stevie Ray Vaughn song, and Under the Pines is a song by JoCo. Good luck, I look forward to hearing the demos.

Tell Me – Reminds me of the blues song covered by SRV
I’ve Always Been a Greedy One – This has potential, but the title isn’t as interesting as the idea I get from it.
The Deep End of Summer – I like this one
I Don’t Care What the Weatherman Says – Another one with strong potential, but again, not as interesting to me
Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair (folk song rewrite) – I’d be interested to hear how someone goes after this, but it’s been done before.
Rope Holds Her Together – Murder Ballad? Stalker song?
I’ll Always Have Time – Sounds like a country radio title.
Typecast – This is interesting, but it didn’t grab me right away. I had to think about it for a bit.
A Letter I Almost Sent – This could be good. Another one that could go into country radio territory… or not.
Starving with a Pocket Full of Money – Interesting
Empty in the Morning – I really like this one
    Fifteen Girls
Those Are the Hands – Christian Rock? I find it more interesting how I’m reacting to the titles and how someone else would react differently.
Yes, Jealous – Not so much. But any title could be cool with the right song.
Ship in a Sinking Bottle – Yeah, I’d like to hear this one.
Scratched Your Name into a Bell – Not sure
Missing – An online friend wrote a song with this title and it’s wonderful. Everything else will be compared to it.
If You’re Desperate for a Hero – Sounds like it could end up being ‘preachy’ if I were to write it.
Under the Pines – Reminds me of the Leadbelly song that Nirvana of all people did on unplugged.
Pesky Little Dreams – Very interested
I Love When You Forget Your Manners – Kids songs? Love song?
You Know Where to Find Me – Stubborn breakup song? Stubborn love song?

Gah, I’ve been so behind on visiting blogs. My favorite title on your list is Ship in a Sinking Bottle. Great imagery!
