The Halted Clock

Well, it took me about two years, but I finally gave this website a proper name. Just in case you’re reading this post from an RSS feed reader or via an e-mail subscription, here’s the new banner:

Many thanks to Flickr user Contemplicity for the original photo, which he generously allowed me to cut up, recolor and write on.

I put more thought into this name than many people put into their tattoos. Out of dozens of ideas, I finally chose The Halted Clock because:

  • It’s a tip of the hat to the Tom Waits & Kathleen Brennan song “Rain Dogs.”
  • The best clocks are intricately built, carefully crafted works of art.
  • When we’re absorbed in a great piece of music, we lose track of time.
  • Time also gets slippery when we’re focused on writing our own songs.

Ah, it feels good to finally have a name and a visual theme for this website… this was long overdue.

Congrats, it looks so cool and the whole title has a great idea behind it. I also love the sprockets, there’s just something about them.

Thanks very much! 😀 I am so glad that I’m not alone in my love of sprockets. I think they’re beautiful.
