I started this site in 2009 as a place to think out loud about the craft of songwriting. Back then, the site served 20 readers on a good week. Now Song Written serves 3,500 songwriters every week — everyone from novice songwriters to college professors.
It’s been an adventure. I’ve appeared in Pat Pattison’s book Songwriting Without Boundaries, chatted with legendary songwriter Diane Warren on Huffpost Live, and gotten props from CDBaby. I’ve made good friends who love to write songs and love to talk about writing songs. Most importantly, I’ve learned a lot about this craft, and shared that knowledge with you.
Over the years, this site’s schedule has been erratic: I’d publish twice in one week, then go abruptly silent for months. But starting now, you can expect one new post on songwriting every Thursday. Plan on it. If all goes well, we’ll see about publishing more often.
In the coming months, you can look forward to:
- Writing prompts and creativity exercises
- Advice on getting organized and finishing songs
- Lyric writing techniques that you can put to work right away
- Tips on home recording and live performance
- Tips on making more time in your life to write songs and be creative
Stay tuned. If you’re not subscribed yet, you can sign up for email updates via the box below.
